This was my favorite story in the O Christmas Town Novella Collection and is one that not only had a “didn’t see that coming” kind of twist, but showed the true heart of Christmas in redemption, sacrifice and love. Louis Penwell is a self-made man who is forced to return to the roots of his past but he’s excited to meet the woman he’s proposed marriage to, except she’s no longer there. In her place, Ms. Sonja Hoeke stands ready to be the wife he’s needing especially considering her wretched father wants to ship her off to anyone who’ll take the poor woman. I loved this story and the compassion that Sonja had for the children no one else wanted.
